Arsenic is a naturally-occurring metal found in many water supplies throughout the country. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which oversees federal water quality standards, lowered the acceptable level of arsenic in municipal water supplies from 50 parts per billion (roughly a pinch of salt in an Olympic-size swimming pool) to 10 parts per billion.
This new standard is not expected to affect the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Our water already surpasses the revised standard.
